When I was in 1st grade, I had a friend who knew so many words. I was both envious, so I asked my teacher how I could gain a more extensive vocabulary (yes I said ‘extensive vocabulary’ when I was 7), and she told me to read more. I guess that’s pretty obvious… Books are filled with words that we do and don’t know- and think we know.
It’s difficult to remember the more obscure words, but they are oh-so-great. Take, for example, umbrage (a feeling of anger cause by being offended). I haven’t been able to fit it into a discussion yet, but I am dying to! If you like boasting about all the big words you know, then this quiz should be a breeze. However, you may be surprised by what these difficult words mean.
NOTE: Some words have more than one definition but we are only using one. Definitions courtesy of vocabulary.com.
