Mary J. Blige Joins Netflix Adaptation of Gerard Way's 'Umbrella Academy'

Didn't see this one coming...

Singer-turned-actor Mary J. Blige has signed on to join the cast of the upcoming Netflix adaptation of My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way's graphic novel The Umbrella Academy.

The film follows a family, each of whom is a superhero, who team up to solve the death of their father. The confirmed cast so far included Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castañeda as Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Ellen Page as Vanya, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, and Aidan Gallagher as Number Five.

Bilge will play Cha-Cha, a ruthless, sociopathic time-travelling hitwoman. Mary J. Blige is Oscar-nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Mudbound, but this will be her first major role in a television series.

We're pretty delighted with this news, and we're not the only ones. Ellen Page posted a screenshot of Variety's article about Blige's casting, along with the praying hands emoji, implying she's pretty pleased as well!
