Mariah Carey Raises Awareness of Mental Health by Sharing Personal Struggles in New Memoir
Pop singer Mariah Carey is reportedly working on a memoir that will focus on her experiences with mental health, revealed Page Six TV.
The singer-actress recently revealed to People magazine that she has been suffering from a long-term battle with bipolar disorder. The singer was diagnosed in 2001 while being hospitalized following a very public breakdown that stunned Hollywood. She kept her diagnosis a secret from the public, in part because she was reluctant to accept it herself.
Carey told People:
I didn’t want to believe it. I didn’t want to carry around the stigma of a lifelong disease that would define me and potentially end my career...I was so terrified of losing everything, I convinced myself the only way to deal with this was to not deal with this.

Though Carey has been relatively mum about her personal struggles, now she is ready to be open with the public.
Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me. It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore...As hard as this is, I also knew it was time to finally share my story.
Good for you, Mariah!
