Make time for these great YA sequels coming in 2012

I hope that by now you had a chance to have a look at the new YA books that I suggested a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully you have found some interesting titles on that list and you started putting together your new reading list. However, before you book all your time with new stories and debut authors take a moment to check who is releasing sequels in the next few months as it might be just the one from your favorite author.

Here is a small selection of YA sequel novels that I think are really standing out:

Admittedly, Princess stories are not for everybody, but if you are a fan you should definitely add Palace of Stone to your shelf. Shannon Hale is a Newberry winning author who spins another novel of the Fairy Tale Kingdom, romance and a story of a would be princess. Read the sample chapter.

“The book is a fresh approach to the traditional princess story with unexpected plot twists and great emotional resonance.” 2006 Newbery Committee

Son by Lois Lowry fourth book in The Giver Quartet

If you are interested in award winning authors you will certainly be happy to hear that Lois Lowryis publishing a new book in her multi award winning and bestselling Giver series. The new novel entitled Son reunites Jonas from The Giverand Kira, the heroine of Gathering Blue, but it also introduces a new heroine fourteen-year-old Claire. No matter what age you are Lois Lowry is an amazing writer to read.

Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick the last volume in the Hush Hush series

We probably don’t need to introduce this author or this title; our site has been a buzz and is counting down the days to the release of Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick. Make sure you join the Becca Fitzpatrick book club on our site which is the official club endorsed by Becca.
“A gripping chiller… Fitzpatrick regularly tweaks the tension, resulting in a fast-paced, exhilarating read. Nora’s tempestuous relationship with prototypical bad boy Patch is genuinely, even unsettling seductive- fans of paranormal romance should be rapt.” – Publishers Weekly

Reached by Ally Condie is a riveting conclusion to the #1 “New York Times” bestselling Matched trilogy

If you are a fan of dystopian fiction with a little bit of romance make sure you check the final volume of Matched trilogy and if you have never seen this name before you are in for a real treat of reading all three at the same time: book 1 Matched and book 2 Crossed
Matched is a page-turning, dystopian love story, written with the soul of a poet. Finally, a brave new world that readers from Twilight to The Hunger Games will claim as their own.” –Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, New York Timesbestselling authors of Beautiful Creatures

Shadows by IlsaBick is second volume in the Ashes trilogy (the third and the last installment will be the Monsters scheduled for October 2013)

This series will appeal to readers who like a darker version of dystopian and apocalyptic genre. In Ilsa’s version of the world “those left standing must learn what it means not just to survive, but to live amidst the devastation”

“Splendidly paced apocalyptic zombie horror ends with a thrilling, terrifying cliffhanger and a number of unresolved mysteries”.   Kirkus Reviews

For those who like supernatural romance we have two great but quite different suggestions

The first one is Beautiful Redemptionwhich is #4 in the Casters series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
The series debuted a couple of years ago and already has a major crowd of followers who describe it as atmospheric, romantic, haunting and praised it as a great combination of fantasy and very real. It is full of curses, ghosts, mysteries, but also very  powerful emotions.

The second recommendation Echo comes from the new series just started by the bestselling author Alyson Noel The Soul Seeker. Volume one Fatedappeared just a couple of months ago, it is going to be followed by Echobefore the end of the year. Echo is also a story of magic and romance but of a bit different kind since it is based on the shamanism of the native people of New Mexico. Check the book trailer of volume one here.

All of the above mentioned titles will be published before the end of 2012 but of course new books are being announced all the time. We will do another review of the first 6 months of 2013 soon. Nevertheless I thought I would wet your appetite by mentioning that Marie Lu is releasing Prodigy the second book in the Legend series in January 2013, and Kiersten White‘s is starting a new series Mind Games in February 2013.

I could add a few more books to this list but I thought I would turn the table around and ask you what YA books you are most looking forward to? Meanwhile I hope you found here a great new book to add to your bookshelf and reading list for 2012.
