Peter Dinklage with hilarious mohawk

8 ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Members Who Are Surprisingly Awesome Musicians

Between Ed Sheeran’s obnoxiously on-the-nose cameo or more subtle musical cameos (like The National’s ‘The Rains of Castamere’), Game of Thrones likes its music. It’s not just the show’s creators who love music, though. A surprising number of cast members have substantial music careers. Here are seven Game of Thrones cast members who can turn it up.

1. Carice van Houten (Melisandre)

The Red Woman may secretly be an old woman, but Carice van Houten has a lovely, youthful singing voice. She sounds like she may be a musical descendant of Dido. The Lord of Light may have also inspired this particular song.

2. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)

Once upon a time, the youth of the world believed they had found the definitive future of music: funk-rock. Among those true-believers was Tyrion Lannister himself, Peter Dinklage. The band was called Whizzy, and Dinklage was the frontman (and trumpeter according to this picture). He may have given Anthony Kiedis a run for his money, but Kiedis need not worry. A Lannister always repays his debts.

3. Natalia Tena (Osha)

Remember Osha? Ramsay Bolton killed her. Luckily, Osha actress Natalia Tena dodged Ramsay’s wrath because she sings some freaking bangers. I’m not sure who you can liken her sound to. M.I.A.? Maybe No Doubt? In any case, Tena should keep rocking with Molotov Jukebox!

4. Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm)

Grey Worm is one of the most memorable lovers on Game of Thrones since he’s lacking, you know, a penis. Also, he’s really stern. Free of these afflictions in real life, Anderson produces some positively jubilant tunes under the moniker “Raleigh Ritchie.”

5. Kristian Nairn (Hodor)

Not one for words in his acting career, and apparently not one for words in his music career either, Nairn’s a killer DJ. He’s also really not interested in keeping those careers separate. One of his tours was called Rave of Thrones, and that’s just wonderful.

6. Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton)

If you had to guess what sort of music Iwan Rheon played based on his performance as Ramsay Bolton, what would you say? Some might say death metal or hardcore or, I don’t know, really aggressive jazz. Probably, you wouldn’t think slow, sleepy acoustic guitar music. Well, that’s what he plays. Sleepy acoustic guitar music. It’s great.

7. Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed)

Okay, this one you might have been able to guess. Jojen was 100% the bassist of Bran’s posse. I am not throwing shade at bassists. He was the glue that held everybody together when things got tough. In his band Winnet, Brodie-Sangster also keeps things together. He’s in the rhythm section. Side note, if the singer looks familiar it’s because she looks like Brodie-Sangster…because she’s his mom.

…oh, and 8. Jerome Flynn (Bronn)

Bronn is every GOT fan’s favorite cad, but actor Jerome Flynn is pretty endearing. Robson & Jerome have covered dozens of pop songs like ‘Unchained Melody,’ and they’re all bordering on earnest. Clearly, though, Flynn’s got his sense of humor on display. If you look closely while he sings ‘Unchained Melody,’ you can see in his eyes the fearlessness it takes to stand in front of a fire-breathing dragon. Expert casting, HBO!
