Welcome to a new week filled with great new books! Science Fiction is the genre that is dominating this week, and here are five great novels that are just waiting for you to get your hands on them. Each one unique, with unique characters and interesting stories.

  1. Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson

Goddess in the Machine tells the story of two people, Andra, and Zhade. Andra went into a chronic sleep across the galaxy and she didn’t expect to awaken a thousand years later, in the year 3102. Now her family is dead and everyone thinks she’s a goddess. The descendants of her family and friends believe her to be a deity, and although she knows she’s not, she plays along in hopes of getting back to Earth. Meanwhile, Zhade believes that the sleeping goddess is his ticket to getting his throne since he is considered a bastard prince. He wants Andra to play the part of the goddess because her coffin was once in the palace, and he knows if people find out Andra isn’t really a goddess they will kill her. So, the two must work together to get the current evil king off the throne, while helping Andra figure out her true fate. Andra may be a thousand years from home, but now she’s unsure if Earth is the best place to be.

2. Hella by David Gerrold

Hella is a planet where everything is oversized, even the ambitions of the people that inhabit it. Twice a year, the people of this planet have to move because of the overwhelming heat in the summer and the freezing cold in the winter. One of the inhabitants of this planet is named Kyle, known as a neuro, and he is also atypical. He is emotionally challenged, but he has an implant that gives him access to the Colony’s computer network. He is the link between his colony and earth when a starship arrives. Hella isn’t prepared to handle these new arrivals, especially because with new people come issues the colony thought they left behind. Kyle, however, may be a danger to himself and his family, but he knows a secret, and now his emotions have reawakened. So, will he use his emotions or use his special ability to prevent disaster.

3. Half Life by Lillian Clark

Half Life tells the story of Lucille, who is an overachiever perfectionist, however, she is still a teenager who wants to be a teenager: hang out with friends, fall in love, and just have more fun. Then, she sees an ad for Life2 with the slogan Do More, Be More, and that immediately sparks her interest. The company is in search of beta testers for their clone program, and Lucille jumps at the chance. At first, her clone Lucy is everything she needs to live her life the way she wants. But over time, Lucy becomes more Lucy and less like herself, Lucille. Lucille just sees Lucy as a window, because Lucy just does what she wants without thinking. Now, Lucille is wondering how much of herself was part of the life she constructed in Lucy. Lucy was supposed to help her with relationships, but now Lucille has to fix the relationship with herself.

4. Blue Ticket by Sophie Mackintosh

Blue Ticket tells the story of Calla, and it’s her turn to enter the lottery. When you first bleed, you report to the station to learn what kind of woman you will be. There are two tickets, a white ticket means you will have children and a blue ticket means you will have a life of freedom. You don’t have to make the choice for yourself, the lottery does it for you. However, there is no going back, but what if the life you are given is the wrong one?

5. Queen’s Peril by E.K Johnston

Queen’s Peril tells the story of Padme Naberrie, who at just fourteen years old wins the crown for Queen of Naboo. Now that she is queen, she adopts the name Amidala and lets her family run the palace. In order to keep herself safe, she needs a team of handmaidens who can be her assistants, decoys, defenders, and confidantes. Each girl is selected for her talent, but Padme has to bring them together as a group. When Naboo is invaded, Queen Amidala and her handmaidens must face the greatest test of each other and themselves.
