Marvel’s New Adult Cartoon-M.O.D.O.K

There is a lot of hype about the content that Marvel has been and will be continuing to bring to Disney plus and the big screen in the future but if you didn’t know they are also bringing one of the most formidable villains in Marvel comics, M.O.D.O.K to the small screen on Hulu in his own show.

Animated in the vain of ‘Robot Chicken’, the hit stop motion parody show on Adult Swim, the show will be available to stream this month on the 21st and will be an adult comedy cartoon and when I say adult, I mean adult. This isn’t an Avengers or Spiderman cartoon able to be shown to kids of all ages on Disney channel. It is rated R; there is explicit language, blood, gore but from what we’ve seen so far some pretty cool fight scenes also, so viewer discretion is advised.

Here’s an official synopsis of the show:

In Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., the megalomaniacal supervillain M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world. But after years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth’s mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. has run his evil organization A.I.M. into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.’s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing is set to confront his greatest challenge yet!

As of now, no. M.O.D.O.K. the show is separate from the MCU, for example, what is happening with Wanda and Vision and the new Captain America and Bucky but there is a new comic series that is already melding the character into the official cannon. So if he were to end up in the MCEU at some point, it would probably be a long way off.

Check out the trailer here!

What do you guys think? Will be checking out M.O.D.O.K. on Hulu, this May 21st on Hulu? Let us know!

‘Loki’ New Release Date-Wednesdays Are The New Fridays!

This is not a drill!! It was announced today by Loki himself (Tom Hiddleston) on the official Marvel youtube channel that the original Disney plus show Loki it will no longer be premiering on June 11 but on Wednesday, June 9!

The video titled ‘Announcement’ has Tom Hiddleston talk about how his character Loki is near involved in the bid hero sequences that are usually in the begging on a Marvel movie or show. He remarks about how he’s cunning and charming, which, I mean, duh! And he proudly announces that Wednesdays are the new Fridays, indicating that will it be released earlier  than any other Marvel show so far. If that’s not a Norse God flex, I don’t know what is!

Obviously it’s not a huge difference, like releasing it a month early or anything but it’s still really awesome news. Marvel just wants us to continue to let ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Captain America and The Winter Solider’ marinate a bit more but it’s cool. I’m chill. Like super chill about a month long Marvel drought.

As fans of Marvel we are used to being told that something was being pushed back instead of forward especially in the last year and some months thanks to Ms. Rona like ‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings’, and ‘Black Widow’ but news about ‘Loki’ being moved up is a welcomed surprise for sure.

Amazon’s Lord of the Rings slays GoT as most expensive show ever

The realm of television is reaching the stars as far as quality and talent are concerned with big-name properties taking over the entertainment landscape. The price tag for these productions is now the newest precedent in the industry with the likes of Netflix and Disney pushing production costs to the level of modern films. The Boys, WandaVision, and more accurately Game of Thrones have ushered in the age of expensive seasons with tons of CGI to flood the small screen. The most spent one a season was pushing toward the triple digits but now a new contender is coming to shoot well past that milestone set by Game of Thrones years prior. Amazon, being the titan that it is, will now house one of the most expensive television shows ever made based on one of the most beloved franchises in modern times The Lord of the Rings.

The much anticipated Lord of the Rings Prime-exclusive show is breaking records well before a release date is pegged. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon’s ambitious prequel series will cost $465 million on the first season alone which in and of itself is a record-breaker. Game of Thrones by comparison only reached that cost for an entire season by its 6th season. Amazon and the by extension the New Zealand government stated that the show will cost approximately $1 billion to produce between two seasons completely trumping any show currently in development. Producers of the upcoming series are already naming it the next Game of Thrones craze as a possible 5 season deal is being made should this first season gain traction only adding more money to the mix however that’s not the only step Amazon is taking from its competitor.

In 2017, Amazon had already spent 250 million on acquiring the rights to the franchise and since then details have been intentionally sparse. What is known is that the show will take place a whole millennium before the events of both film trilogies. An airtight writers’ room was formed not too long after the show’s announcement. An ensemble cast has been formed with Eddard Stark himself Robert Aramayo leading the trope while being joined by Morfydd Clark, Joseph Mawle, and Markella Kavenagh. The filming continues in New Zealand since February of last year though it is still unclear whether production of this first season is beginning to wrap.

Regardless, Amazon Studios has still penned a 2021 release for its streaming platform. With the collaboration of Amazon, Harper Collins, and of course the Tolkien Estate, this Lord of the Rings project seems to be a delight to longtime fans of the series since the conclusion of The Hobbit trilogy back in 2014. I for one am giddy with excitement that the same amount of resources used in the films is translating to the small screen with flying colors. Hopefully sometime not too far away we can all experience the world of man, orc, elven, and dwarven doing battle across Middle-Earth soon this year.

Disney+ May Include Sam Rami Spider-Man Trilogy

Thanks to a new licensing deal between Disney and Sony, Sam Rami’s Spider-Man trilogy may be included in Disney Plus’ Marvel library. Announced this Wednesday, the agreement between the two companies means that Disney will gain access to a significant portion of Sony’s films, and will be permitted to air them on their many channels, including ABC, Freeform, National Geographic and, of course, the Disney Channel. Not only that, but Disney is also allowed to publish Sony movies on their streaming services Hulu and Disney+.

Disney didn’t confirm which of its services or channels would be getting specific programming, other than to note that some Sony library movies would be hitting Hulu in June. Although, considering how the Fox X-Men franchise was included under the MCU banner on Disney+, I think it’s safe to assume that Toby McGuire will be gracing our screens soon.

Although, the Sam Rami trilogy won’t be the only Sony Spider-Man property now within Disney’s grasp. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, Venom and the Amazing Spider-Man duology starring Andrew Garfield will also be included, as well as presumably the upcoming Morbius and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Similar to the deal Sony had with Netflix earlier this month, Disney will only be permitted to exercise their new legal rights over the Sony properties in the American market, despite the global consumption of their streaming services. Sadly, this means that those of you outside of the United States will be unable to watch the Sony Spider-Man movies with their Disney+ subscriptions.

With arrangements both with Netflix and Disney, Sony is expected to rake in an estimated three billion dollars in movie licensing over the lifetime of the deals. According to Keith Le Goy, President of Worldwide Networks & Distribution for Sony Pictures Television:

“This groundbreaking agreement reconfirms the unique and enduring value of our movies to film lovers and the platforms and networks that serve them. We are thrilled to team up with Disney on delivering our titles to their viewers and subscribers. This agreement cements a key piece of our film distribution strategy, which is to maximize the value of each of our films, by making them available to consumers across all windows with a wide range of key partners.”
