The UK is starting to look a little Willy Wonka-esque and I don’t mean orange skin and green hair or wacky top hats. People are going on a mad hunt for a bill that could be the golden ticket to greatness.

The Sun reported on a special designed bill (or note as the Brits say) of Jane Austen that was created from a collaboration between artist Graham Short and the Tony Huggins-Haig Gallery in Kelso is causing a ruckus. When people heard about them, Short already went Wonka by going all over UK spending them in small shops. Now they could be circulating anywhere!

It’s only £5, but it has a rare engraving of the author’s portrait as well as different quotes from her novels on them. Thanks to that unique mark, its value is now £50,000. Quite a jump, isn’t it?

Unfortunately for those hopeful souls, one was found by a woman who sent it back to Short and the Gallery so they could auction it off and send the earnings to charity. It had a quote from Pride and Prejudice on it: “To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love.” How nice.

Another was an accidental gift, and a couple of the other bills are still circulating around with another one last released in December of last year.
The money is always changing so there is still plenty of more time to catch your Jane Austen fortune!
