Atwood Among Hollywoods Most Powerful Authors

The tides are changing in the movie business

If you know anything about Bookstr, you know we love ourselves some Margaret Atwood. From The Handmaid’s Tale to Angel Catbird we simply cannot get enough of this Canadian superstar. Naturally, when we heard that Atwood made Hollywood Reporter’s list of most powerful authors, we were thrilled!

HR’s list measured ‘power’ by the amount of influence these authors have in Hollywood at the moment. Atwood, despite having written her most famous books years ago, has landed two TV shows based on The Handmaid’s Tale and Alias Grace

You may also remember the haunting tale Room by Emma Donoghue. She also made the list at #22 because of her second upcoming film adaptation Frog Music and two-part TV adaptation based on her memoir. The norse mythologist himself, Neil Gaiman, made the list at #9. One step ahead of him is the tear jerking master John Green

Among her are literary titans such as J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, James Patterson, and George R.R. Martin. Each of whom are constantly getting their books turned into movies or shows. Right now is a golden age for authors and the readers that love adaptions, simply because of the amount of movies being adapted from books. Who would have thought the once nerdy culture of reading could suddenly become a hub for so many Hollywood movies?

Congratulations readers and writers, we are officially the cool kids now!
