The actor and docuseries host has signed on to star in the upcoming reboot of Firestarter, based on Stephen King’s 1980 novel. A young girl develops pyrokinetic powers and the ability to see the future, and gets abducted by a secret government agency that plans on using her for her powers. Zac Efron is set to play the role of her father. The original adaptation starred Heather Lock, Martin Sheen, and Drew Barrymore.
Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and Weed Road Productions are behind the films’ reboot. Scott Teems who advocated and wrote Blumhouse’s Halloween and Halloween Kills is is adapting the screenplay. Martha De Lauren, who was an associate producer in the origional adaptation, will return as an executive producer. Will the adaptation stay true to the novel’s plot? We don’t know yet but with Efron on board, the reboot will be worth a watch.
