Wonderstruck, the children’s novel by Brian Selznick (author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret), is being adapted for film. Todd Haynes is set to direct and will reunite with Oscar-award winning actress Julianne Moore for the film. Moore starred in Haynes’ melodrama, Far From Heaven, which was well received by viewers and critics.
Selznick’s critically acclaimed Wonderstruck follows the lonesome journeys of two American children, Ben and Rose. In 1977, Ben has recently lost his mother and his hearing, and quests to find his long-lost father. Fifty years earlier, Rose, also deaf, has run away from her New Jersey home in search of her favorite Broadway star. Similar to Selznick’s debut novel about Hugo Cabret, Wonderstruck intertwines the adventures of the two characters until they slowly become one—despite decades of difference.
Of Moore’s four Oscar nominations, one of them came from her performance in Far From Heaven. We can’t wait to see what Haynes and Moore do with this beloved book.
