We present this week’s Bookstagrammer Hannah, a mystery and thriller enthusiast with a touch of sweetness and black coffee who goes by @reading_under_covers on Instagram! Hannah is in the detective seat when she reads murder mysteries, and she invites you to be a part of that adrenaline rush. Her posts show stacks of outstanding mystery writers — both classic and contemporary — with blue, black, white, and gray color schemes.

Hannah’s love for the sweet — and unsweet — characters in her book recs will surely make you stay up at night. Make sure you grab your sweet treats and coffee because you will need them to calm the blood-curdling effect from Hannah’s thriller, horror, and mystery recs!

Let’s hear from the mystery enthusiast herself!

Why did you start your Bookstagram?

I was a longtime Bookstagram lurker — I’ve always been a fan of pretty book photos, haha — before deciding in 2019 that I wanted to become fully engaged with the community and start a Bookstagram. Being able to be creative while sharing my love of reading really went hand in hand.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but I have been calling Brooklyn, NY, my home for the last three and a half years.

What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world?

If I can get one person to pick up a book they wouldn’t have considered before and then fall in love with it… there’s nothing more I could ask for!

What is a fun fact about you?

If nachos are on the menu, I will get them. Every. Single. Time.

What are your favorite books and authors?

In no particular order, some of my favorite authors and books are: Riley Sager (Lock Every Door), Taylor Adams (No Exit), Ruth Ware (In a Dark, Dark Wood), and Adrienne Young (Fable). My list of favorites is ever-changing, but these authors and their stories have all had a lasting impact that keeps them at the top.

What books are on your TBR list?

The top three that I plan on getting to soon — I will, I swear! — are Maeve Fly by CJ Leede, The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley, and How To Make a Horror Movie and Survive by Craig DiLouie.

What is your aesthetic or theme for your Instagram page?

Moody and cozy: I love the muted color look, but I also love to add that coziness with hot coffee and tasty treats.

What is your favorite bookstore?

Living in the city of books, this question is so difficult, but I’ll forever and always love getting lost in the stacks of McNally Jackson at the Seaport!

Which author would you take a selfie with?

If I had a time machine, Agatha Christie. Hopefully, after the shock of the selfie wore off, we could sit down for tea and talk all things murder.

What is your favorite book cover?

The cover of Dead Eleven by Jimmy Juliano is *chef’s kiss*

What is your advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers?

Do it for you. Post what you want to post whenever you want to post. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the numbers, but if you do it for yourself, you’ll find it more fulfilling than you otherwise would!

Our team is grateful to Hannah for joining us on this week’s BOTW! Make sure you go check out her spine-chilling book recommendations on her Goodreads and Instagram accounts, and follow her for more chills and thrills! Hannah’s mood lighting with mysterious aesthetics and sweet treats are to die for!
