If you watched this year’s Super Bowl, you might have noticed an advertisement of a man playing Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” on the violin. If you thought he looked like Albert Einstein, you’re right! Academy Award winning actor, Geoffrey Rush will be playing Einstein in National Geographic’s new series, Genius premiering April 25th.
According to Vanity Fair, the 10 episode limited series promises a look into Einstein’s personal life starting from his youth and moving into his later years. In an attempt to tell the human side of his story, we will meet Einstein’s friends, and see his personal struggles outside of the scientific world. Of course, there will be some science involved, too. Executive producer Ron Howard said,
“When you move past his scientific contributions, Albert’s life story—what his youth was like, who his friends were, who his enemies were, his tumultuous love life—is a story people don’t know, which is what attracted me to be on the producing team and to direct the first episode. I think audiences are going to be riveted as we tell this ambitious and revealing human story behind Einstein’s scientific brilliance.”
Young Einstein will be played by Johnny Flynn, an English actor known for starring in the Netflix series Lovesick, and the series will also feature appearances by Emily Watson and Michael McElhatton. Check out the first trailer for the series below!
