WarnerMedia Reveals New Streaming Service HBO Max

Everyone wants a slice of the streaming pie that started when Netflix began killing it in the ratings when it debuted original content way back in 2013. Hulu and Amazon have already made names for themselves in the streaming wars and it won’t be long until Disney and Apple enter the fray with their own original content. And now we can add another contender to the mix: WarnerMedia.

After months of speculation, WarnerMedia finally unveiled the name of their own streaming service: HBO Max. Sharing the name with the popular premium cable channel, HBO Max will host over 10,000 hours of content, with some big names attached to it.

HBO Max will feature all current HBO series and library including Game Of Thrones and Westworld. Shows from The CW, like Riverdale and all current DC-related shows on that channel, will also stream after their runs on television. Content from Cartoon Network, TBS, TNT, CNN, and DC Entertainment will also be featured. And of course, Warner Bros. films will also be available.

HBO Max will also be the exclusive streaming home to classic shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Pretty Little Liars. Original content will also come to the service. Greg Berlanti and Reese Witherspoon are producing films for the service, and we already know of two literary adaptations being made into series.

But perhaps the biggest news to come from this announcement: Friends will be leaving Netflix next year to stream exclusively on HBO Max. Netflix confirmed the series’ departure in a tweet:

With all this content coming, it is unclear what will happen to HBO GO, HBO NOW, and DC Universe in the future.
