Warner Bros. Catches Heat After ‘Riverdale’ Star K. J. Apa Crashes Car

In May, the CW left us reeling as they concluded the first season of the new hit show Riverdale. We are now less than a month away from season two, and it seems that the actors are getting in as much trouble as their characters.

K.J. Apa, who plays the lovable lead role of Archie Andrews on Riverdale, was involved in a car accident last Thursday after work. Luckily, he hasn’t sustained any serious injuries and was able to return to work just one day after the crash. However, this incident has called into question the safety of Warner Bros. working conditions.

Like with most TV shows, the cast of Riverdale often works late hours. No confirmation has been provided in regards to reasons for the crash, but many speculate Apa was overtired. When confronted about their working conditions, a Warner Bros. spokesperson had this to say:

The safety of the cast and crew on all of our productions is of paramount importance to the Studio…if any cast or crew member feels tired or unsafe at any time after working, the Studio will provide a taxi, a driver or a hotel room upon request. This is communicated to all cast and crew…at the beginning of production and is reiterated continuously throughout the duration of production.

Although the spokesperson went on to say that they make sure the cast and crew is always safe, many people are still concerned by this incident. Several Riverdale actors confronted producers about unsafe work conditions. Riverdale is filmed in Vancouver, and the studio does not provide transportation to and from the set, but the studio maintains that they do provide cars if any member of the cast or crew is too tired to drive themselves home.

Neither Apa himself nor his representation provided a comment, meaning we can’t be sure of exactly what happened. Nevertheless, this incident is being taken seriously and the Screen Actors Guild deployed a team to Vancouver to investigate the safety of the set.

Meanwhile, we can all agree we’re happy to hear Apa is just fine, and we can’t wait for Riverdale season two to premiere on October 11th!
