Victor LaValle’s 2017 hit “The Changeling” has been acquired by Annapurna Television. LaValle, who has won the American Book Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship, among others, will co-executive produce the project alongside Annapurna Television head Sue Naegle and Ali Krug.
“The Changeling” follows the story of Apollo Kagwa whose wife, Emma, murders their baby boy. After this tragedy, Emma goes missing. Apollo then embarks on a journey into New York’s hidden corners to track down his wife. The novel is twisty and elusive. Its tone changes from page to page, but still manages to cohere. It’s a horror mystery with elements of magical realism, and a lot of really warped romance.
Annapurna Television is currently bringing an anthology series to Netflix from the Coen brothers about the Old West. Stay tuned for more info on this LaValle adaptation.
