Book Culture

Just when the quarantine boredom was really kicking in, the New York Public Library – and Neil Gaiman – are here to save the day. Starting on Tuesday, May 12, everybody at home can tune in to a star-studded reading of Gaiman’s classic Coraline

The classic dark novel will be read from May 12 through May 18, with an incredible cast of voices to bring the story to life. NYPL had this to say:

Join us for a full-length virtual reading, featuring Neil Gaiman, along with LeVar Burton, Rosario Dawson, and Dakota Fanning, of Gaiman’s beloved tale of bravery and resilience, Coraline—the story of a young girl who stumbles across a strange world, similar to her own, yet eerily different.

Now THAT is an exciting cast.

If you wanted to read along, or read before you listen, you can check out a free copy of Coraline from the New York Public Library today! It’s easy AND free, meaning you can get your Gaiman fix, even with the library doors shut for the time being. If you don’t have an NYPL membership, but you are a resident of New York state, you can sign up online and check out to your hearts content!

With the New York locations temporarily closed, library fanatics (like us!) can get their fix on the New York Public Library website. The site has a wealth of resources and free services, much of which can be accessed on the SimplyE app – where you can access books without waits and holds. It is a book lover’s dream come true.

Tune in on Tuesday for a week of exploring the wonderfully creepy world of Coraline, brought to life by an array of stars. We can’t wait!!
