‘Tis the season to think of jolly old phrases like “Joy to the world!” or “Have a merry little Christmas.” For some people the phrase “Bah! Humbug!” would be more appropriate. With those words we usually picture a grumpy, old, crotchety Mr. Scrooge, perhaps in his nightgown too.

So, naturally, I’m curious as to how the handsomely rugged (I’m sorry, but c’mon) Tom Hardy is going to be playing Ebenezer Scrooge in BBC’S miniseries adaptation of Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol.

According to NME, the actor is working with creator Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) to help stitch in endless amounts of Christmas magic to the three 60-minute episodes. “To have the chance to revisit the text and interpret in a new way is the greatest privilege,” Knight explains. Hardy is equally as grateful and excited.
A Christmas Carol is a fabulous magical piece of theatre and an embarrassment of riches for our creative team – from character all the way through to design. Here’s to having a lot of intricate and wonderful fun. We feel very lucky.
The marvelous miniseries is due out around Christmas 2019! Until then, Tom Hardy fans (me) will be impatiently waiting for him to grace their TVs. Merry Christmas to us.
