Today is Tolkien Reading Day, and proper Middle Earth fans are celebrating with breakfast, second breakfast, elevensies . . . Okay, jokes aside, today is a big day for Tolkien fans! March 25th commemorates the day that Frodo (with the help of Gollum) cast the one ring into the fires of Mordor and defeated Sauron once and for all!
Tolkien Reading Day was first organized in 2003 by The Tolkien Society, and since then they have used this day to promote love for J.R.R. Tolkien and his writings. This year, you can celebrate with them by joining one of the meetings being held over Zoom to connect with other fans. Check out their website for other ways you can participate and connect with fans all over the world as you celebrate your love for Tolkien.
If you can’t make it to one of the meetings, feel free to celebrate on your own by picking up your favorite book for a reread, binging the movies, cosplaying your favorite character, or getting together with friends to recreate Middle Earth-inspired recipes! However you celebrate today, keep the spirit of Samwise Gamgee with you, and remember, “There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.”
