Thrilling New Trailer for ‘The Girl on the Train’

Consider the screens set for the adaptation of Paula Hawkins‘ thriller The Girl on the TrainWe’ve seen peeks and glimpses in the past, but the newest trailer, released yesterday, brings us even further into the film’s world.

Emily Blunt consummately portrays the book’s Rachel Watson, an alcoholic whose blackout tendencies and deteriorated relationship with her ex-husband cause her to sink to the bottom of a psychological mystery. Caught in the crosshairs of a missing-persons case, Rachel repeatedly questions her memories, others’ true motives, and her capacity for violence.

The fiery new trailer has all the tropes you’ve seen – and maybe loved – before: an intentionally unreliable reality, context-free but heavy-sounding quotes (“I read once that when a train hits, it can rip the clothes right off of you”), and a mandatory dramatic cover of a pop hit (this time a thematically-questionable, teardrops-on-the-piano remix of Kanye West’s “Heartless”). Check it out below:

The Girl on the Train premieres in theatres on October 7th, perfectly timed for ‘Halloween scare’ season.
