After the success of author, Angie Thomas’ first novel, The Hate U Give, fans have been anxiously waiting to hear news about her newest novel, On the Come Up, hitting the big screen. Now fans have an update for the movie adaptation, which has been announced yesterday that the producer, Kay Oyegun, of hit NBC series, This is Us, is set to adapt the film for Paramount. It will be directed by George Tillman Jr, who also directed the book to screen adaptation of Thomas’ first novel.

The novel follows Bri, an up and coming rapper who is trying to follow the footsteps of her late father, who was a famous underground rapper. Bri, finds it hard to live to up her dad’s legend while being bullied in school and dealing with her mom who is struggling to find a job. She pours out her frustrations into her music and one of her songs goes viral, but for the wrong reasons.
Oyegun, is also set to write the book to screen adaption of, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomei Adeyemi.
