Warning: this article contains major spoilers for Season 7, Episode 3 of “Game of Thrones”, “The Queen’s Justice”. Steer away from here now if you still haven’t watched it.

Ever since Lady Olenna Tyrell appeared in Season 3, she has been one of our favorite characters primarily due to her brutal honesty and sharp humor.

However, as the Lannisters approached the Tyrells with revenge, we knew her fate was doomed. In Season 7, Episode 3 that aired on Sunday July 30th, Olenna faced her imminent death in the most savage way possible. Though Cersei Lannister ordered a slow death, Jaime argued for a peaceful and dignified one through poison. After Olenna calmly downed her glass of poisoned wine, she made the ultimate confession:

“Must have been horrible for you as a Kingsguard, as a father. It was horrible enough for me,” she said of Joffrey’s death. “A shocking scene. Not at all what I intended. You see, I had never seen the poison work before. Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me.”

Although viewers had already been made aware of Joffrey’s true murderer when Olenna confessed to her granddaughter Margery in Season 4, revealing this fact to Jaime with her last draw of breath made her exit tragic albeit epic. For what she said and the way she sad it, she totally deserves her status as the Queen of Thorns.
