The X-Files’ Gets Young Adult Book Series Spin-Off

It’s a great time to be an X-Files fan. Hot on the heels of the X-Files TV reboot, a new young adult novel series has been announced. The X-Files Origins will follow the shows’ two protagonists, Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, as teenagers.

Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group announced the new series in an Entertainment Weekly exclusive, and they also revealed details about the first two books. The two novels, Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate, will each focus on one of the two paranormal investigators made famous by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Agent of Chaos will focus on a 17-year-old Fox Mulder. It will be written by Kami Garcia, a bestselling author known for co-authoring the Caster Chronicles books.

Devil’s Advocate will introduce us to a 15-year-old Dana Scully. The novel will be written by Jonathan Maberry, a bestselling thriller writer known for novels like Assassin’s Code.

Both novels will take place in the spring of 1979, “when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news.” The novels will shed new light on how the two investigators developed their distinctive personalities and chose their unique careers.

Both Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate will be released in January of 2017.
