Streaming service CBS All Access has released the first teaser for its upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s 1978 novel The Stand.

The short teaser, which is only thirty seconds in length, aired during last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, briefly showed Whoopi Goldberg as Mother Abagail, introducing herself to Frannie Goldsmith (played by Odessa Young) in a cornfield, and telling her to find her at Hemingfoot Home. Then we’re given brief glimpses into scenes featuring other characters, walking through deserted streets, down dark corridors, and even one levitating in midair in a perversion of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion pose (who is most certainty Randall Flagg, the main antagonist of Stephen King’s post-apocalyptic dark fantasy).

Now, in an effort not to spoil anything to those of you who haven’t read the book, I won’t provide a play-by-play of who each character we see is and what the context of each scene is. I’ll just let you know that King allegedly sought to create an epic on par with The Lord of the Rings, so expect a show packed to the brim with characters and plot threads.
