It has been confirmed that the script is nearly ready for the sequel to Disney’s wonderful half-cartoon, half-live-action Enchanted, cleverly entitled Disenchanted. Director Alan Shankman has said that the story will follow Gisele as she has grown disenchanted with life in real-world New York City. “The fundamental story has changed a little bit, but not from the base story of it. It’s about Giselle 10 years later going, ‘What is happily ever after?'”
This alarms me. I don’t want a ‘gritty,’ sad version of the unapologetically joyful, fairy tale-inspired first film. The last thing I need is to see is a morose, disheartened Giselle. I couldn’t bare it. THE WORLD IS BLEAK ENOUGH. Although apparently this film will feature as much animation as its predecessor, as well as, Shankman promises, even more music. “There’s a lot more songs this time than there were in the original,” he ensures us, “at least in the planning phase right now.” Well it better stay that way, Shankman. There is enough misery and woe in the world right now. We do not need additional misery and woe.
Recently, when asked on The Graham Norton Show if she would reprise her role, Adams said, “They’ve got a director and they are developing a script. I’m hoping I am in it. I’m not going to let anyone else play Giselle!”
