The Bookseller reports that Erin Morgenstern is coming out with a new book next year! The bestselling author will release The Starless Sea with Harvill Secker in November 2019.
Morgenstern’s new book is expected to contain all of the hallmarks of her previous release, The Night Circus, which layered magic, mystery, and fantastical elements.

Her new story follows Zachary, a graduate student who uncovers a hidden book in the school library. The book contains a series of clues that leads him to an underground world of “lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead.” He quickly learns of those who sacrificed much to protect this world, and those who would see it torn down. It will take this extraordinary conflict for Zachary to discover his own life’s purpose and place in the world.
Morgenstern says, “When I started working on my new novel, I thought I was writing a book about books but as it turns out I was writing a book about stories. Stories and choices and change and also time and fate and video games. It took quite a while to get it all to fit in a single book, even down to the bees.”
Harvill Secker publishing director Liz Foley called The Starless Sea “exhilarating and glorious,” and promises that “nothing else like it will be published next year.”
