Have you seen ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’? If not, you may want to stop reading here, although I will only reveal minor spoilers.
If you did see it, you definitely recognized one name: Leta Lestrange. Perhaps not Leta, but Lestrange, specifically, is a name that runs chills down most of our spines. I shake my fists to the sky every time I see or hear about Bellatrix Lestrange. I mean, come on! Sirius Black will forever be my favorite character in the Harry Potter series, and she took him away from us. Cue the tears…
So where does Leta Lestrange fit in to the narrative? We briefly saw a photo of her among Newt Scamander’s possessions in the Fantastic Beasts film. He got extremely touchy when Queenie, the mind-reader, or a Legilimens as known in the magical world, questioned him about her. Other than Queenie’s comment about Leta to Newt, “She’s a taker. You need a giver,” we know very little about the character. She must be someone important to Mr. Scamander if he brought something to remember her by, along with dozens of magical creatures.

Both J.K. Rowling and David Yates, director of the movie series, have confirmed that Leta’s character will be explored in the upcoming films. One painfully curious fan asked:
To which Rowling responded:
Yates confirmed the appearance of Leta in the upcoming films during an interview with Movie Pilot:
Leta Lestrange comes into the second movie. She’s quite complicated and damaged and confused and Newt is absolutely still in love with her, so she has a kind of power over him, and she, yeah, she’s a kind of tragic figure, so we will see a bit more of her in the second movie.
Oh dear! This love story sounds intriguing…
So there you have it: The mystery behind Leta Lestrange will [eventually] be uncovered. We only have to wait until the next film. That is, 2018.
