The Mall of America is Searching For a Writer-in-Residence

If you’re anything like me, you grew up in an era filled with wonderment over the Mall of America. Endless shops, the country’s largest indoor amusement park, and roller coasters?! Sign me up.

Apart from hosting over 400 stores ranging from A’gaci to Zara, Mall of America boasts alternative entertainment options including Nickelodeon Universe, SEA LIFE Minnesota Aquarium, Flyover America, The Crayola Factory, a children’s museum, a comedy club, and much, much more.

With that in mind, Mall of America is hosting a contest for a five day writer-in-residence program. Would you write a personal story? A blow-by-blow account of your experiences? The Mall as seen through the eyes of a first-time tourist or a regular guest?

The program started to celebrate the mall’s 25-year history and writers are encouraged to explore and become inspired by the mall. Minnesotan writers, former mall rats, and general shopping fiends with a penchant for words — this one’s for you.

Here’s all you need to know about the position:

“The Writer-in-Residence Contest will give a special scribe the chance to spend five days deeply immersed in the Mall atmosphere while writing on-the-fly impressions in their own words. The contest winner will stay in an attached hotel for four nights, receive a $400 gift card to buy food and drinks and collect a generous honorarium for the sweat and tears they’ll put into their prose.

To apply, visit the application page before March 10, 2017, midnight Central Time. Tell us about yourself and, in 150 words or less, pitch your idea for how you would approach this assignment if you won the Writer-in-Re
