After only two seasons, Henry Cavill announced that he is stepping down from his role as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher. Cavill will not be returning after the upcoming Season 3. The show recast Geralt with Liam Hemsworth and fans haven’t exactly jumped at the news. As with any shocking pop culture moment, the reactions, tweets, and memes came out in hoards. Twitter, specifically, saw a wide range of initial reactions from genuine disappointment to silly fan casts and jokes to rallying support for the rest of the cast.
There is speculation about why Cavill chose to step down including disagreements with the show’s writers and opportunities to reprise his role as Superman or appear in future seasons of House of the Dragon. Whatever the case, fans wasted no time contributing their input to the situation.
You know we love a good Twitter round-up here at Bookstr, so let’s see what the fans are saying about the recent casting switch in the Netflix adaptation of Sapkowski’s beloved books.
It’s no secret that Twitter can be a rough place especially when a fan favorite is being replaced. Does Mr. Hemsworth deserve this? Not necessarily. It’s likely this would have happened with anyone replacing Cavill. It just might mean that he has pretty big shoes to fill as he takes up the incredible character Cavill has developed.
All we can do now is patiently wait for Season 3, which will now officially be Henry Cavill’s last season as Geralt. Catch up on the first and second season on Netflix. Season 3 is set to premiere summer 2023.
