The Independent Bookstore Phenomenon

Combating top bookstore chains and the big online presences of booksellers might be too much to keep an independent bookstore alive. Despite the odds, independent bookstores are doing better than one might think.

According to the ABA (The American Booksellers Association), 61 independent bookstores opened in 2015, while Publisher’s Weekly reported a 6.1% increase in bookstore sales for the first half of 2016.

Journeying into an independent bookstore is something that makes you feel good. From bookstore pets, to genuinely hard-working, awesome people – independent bookstores not only signify a town, but are a gathering place for locals. To pick up your next great read, why head to the large chain store when you can support a local business person? Small, homey, bookstores provide a good book, a touch of personality, and an interesting conversation.
