In 2009, Steig Larsson’s novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo came to life on the big screen. In 2011, a remake was filmed with Rooney Mara (Carol, Lion) playing the hacker, Lisbeth Salander and Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre) playing Mikael Blomkvist, the investigative journalist.

Six years later, the sequel to the first film, The Girl in the Spider’s Web written by David Lagercrantz, is set to release on October 5, 2018. There’s just one catch: The entire cast and director are being changed. Rooney Mara won’t be returning as Salander and there’s a global search out now for her replacement. Sony Pictures will be releasing the next installment with Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) directing.
In a statement to Buzzfeed News, Alvarez said,
“I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Sony has become family to me, and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part — finding our Lisbeth.”
Who would be a good Lisbeth? Let us know in the comments!
