Game of Thrones

The ‘Game of Thrones’ Soundtrack Like You’ve Never Heard It Before

Is anyone surprised that Game of Thrones has taken over as a worldwide phenomenon? The Mumbai Dhol Tasha cover of the Game of Thrones theme during the Indian holiday Ganesh Visarjan has us wanting more.

Dhol is a broad term term for a double headed drum used throughout the Indian subcontinent. Dhol drums are most prominent in bhangra music, which American audiences would recognize from Bollywood films.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a ten-day festival celebrating the Hindu god Ganesha. On the tenth day, Ganesh Visarjan, idols of Ganesha are carried in public processions with music and chanting before being immersed in a body of water – symbolizing Ganesha’s return to Mount Kailash.

So it’s really, really cool that this procession chose to use the Game of Thrones theme in their celebration. It’s a true testament to the widespread popularity and success of the franchise.
