What is better than dinner and a movie? Dinner and live entertainment of course! Some of my favorite memories are at dinner theatres. Sadly the pandemic has taken yet another magnificent theatre. One of the last remaining professional dinner theatres in the country has officially closed. The Westchester Broadway Theatre turned their shining lights off for good this past week.
The 46-year old dinner theatre held an auction that lasted ten hours, everything from the tablecloths to the office printers was sold. With over 200 musicals and plays, thousands of actors and producers, the Westchester Broadway Theatre held a special place in many hearts. Kick stating many careers such as Susan Stroman, John Lloyd Young and Faith Price; all Tony Award Winners. WBT was the longest-running year-round theatre in New York City and all started with a dream of bringing wondrous food and entertainment to everyone at an affordable price.
Many of the great performers we know today had small beginnings here at WBT. Even though these theatre doors will no longer be open, this theatre is not the first to have to close down or cancel their season. Live theatre has been hit hard throughout the pandemic and one can only pray for the best that these magnificent productions and performers will be able to continue bringing us joy and inspiration when this is over.
