The Tony awards are always a crowd favorite every year mostly because there have been some great revivals of musicals and plays recently. From Cats to Miss Saigon, the classics have come back, but the new productions have also staked their claim in the running for this year’s awards. One of the most talked about being that of Mr. Potter.

It’s hard to beat Hamilton and Dear Evan Hanson, however the new contenders have tied in heavily to pop culture. Mean Girls, Band’s Visit, Spongebob, and The Cursed Child are the big nominees everyone is watching. The Band’s Visit may be the one that people are unsure of despite its eleven nominations. The story follows an Egyptian military band showing up in the wrong Israeli town.

However, it’s bookworms and people of many ages who are rooting for J.K. Rowling’s two part play under one of the most powerful franchises in the world. With young-adults and even some older fans backing this brand new Broadway production, it won’t be a surprise if it wins all ten nominations.
