While we won’t see Robert Pattinson donning the cape and cowl of the Dark Knight for some time, DC fans are still incredibly excited to see the upcoming film The Batman. Directed by Matt Reeves, the remake of the Caped Crusader has been in development hell ever since Ben Affleck departed from the DC Extended Universe, and the current global pandemic halting the production of all upcoming movies certainly hasn’t helped. For those of you who can’t wait to see Batman done well once again, here’s everything we currently know about The Batman.
The initial release date of The Batman was June 25, 2021, but has since been pushed back to October 1, 2021 thanks to the delays related to the coronavirus. The cast will consist of Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Colin Farrell as Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, among others. While it’s a little disappointing that we won’t see Batman thwart the Joker, The Batman is intended to be the first of a trilogy of films, so we hopefully might be seeing the Clown Prince of Crime face off against the the World’s Greatest Detective some time in the future.
While Matt Reeves will be the director (who is best known for the 2008 film Cloverfield and the 2014 film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), he also wrote the screenplay, along with Mattson Tomlin, you spent months working with the director to make their “mind blowing” collective vision come to life. We may not know the plot to The Batman just yet, but what we do know is that what’s included in this new “mind blowing” vision is a more grounded interpretation of the character; and one of the ways this is illustrated is with the Batmobile being transformed into a souped-up muscle car.
Finally, we will be seeing a truly unique rendition of the character, honoring his classic Americana roots while still making something new that can be enjoyed worldwide. I don’t know about you, but with DC’s recent lineups of hit stand alone films, I have high hopes for this upcoming trilogy!
