Taraji P. Henson Reveals the Woman Behind Cookie Lyon

If you haven’t been moved by her epic character on Empire, you will definitely be moved by her life story. Taraji P. Henson dishes the details about her life in an upcoming memoir slated for a fall release — October 11th to be specific. Her new book is titled, “Around the Way Girl”, paying tribute to LL Cool J’s ode to strong, beautiful women of the same title released in 1990. Lyrics like “I love it when a woman ain’t scared to do her thing” and “You’re real independent so your parents be bugging” describe Taraji to a tee. She shares the fierce, corageous, and independent qualites of her breakout character, Cookie Lyon, making this song a fitting insipration for her book’s title. In case you haven’t heard it… give it a listen:

The book’s cover is incredible, and we’re excited to read what is in the pages. It is rumored that Henson discusses life being a single mom and the struggles of being a black woman in Hollywood. Get it girl!
