Syfy Picks up New Series Based on George R. R. Martin’s ‘Nightflyers!’

Based on his work and the popularity Game of Thrones has had for the past seven seasons, I think we could all agree that George R. R. Martin is one successful dude. And that’s putting it lightly. Well surprise, surprise everyone: you’re about to hear his name a whole lot more.

The spooky, sci-fi, and fantasy-focused Syfy channel has picked up a new series based on Martin’s 1987 novella Nightflyers! The series of the same name was written up by executive producer Jeff Buhler with Martin receiving the EP credit.

According to Collider, the press release described the series as following an otherworldly journey:

Eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tight knit crew and a reclusive captain — in the hope of making contact with alien life. But when terrifying and violent events begin to take place they start to question each other — and surviving the journey proves harder than anyone thought.

With a cast of stars from shows and movies like Boardwalk Empire (Gretchen Mol), Teen Wolf (Maya Eshet), Fast and Furious 6 (David Ajala), and Million Dollar Baby (Brian F. O’Byrne), we have no doubt this is going to be amazing. What’s even better is Netflix is co-producing the series, which means it will be able to stream it as well!

There’s no confirmed release date or when production will begin, but we’ve fastened our seat belts and we’re ready for take-off.
