Why did you start your Bookstagram?
I was looking at Instagram one day and typed in ‘BOOKS’ in the search bar to find some new books to read and then my eyes were opened to the beautiful world that is Bookstagram. I HAD to be a part of it!
Where are you from?
A small town in North Texas!
What do you want your Instagram to bring to the world?
I want it to be an escape from the world around us, a safe place where people are comfortable. I want it to yell, love. <3
Fun Fact about you:
I used to competitively figure skate!
How can I narrow them down?! There are so many! First I’m going to go with the bookstagrammers I am close to and count as friends: @bethanyolin @crystalbalz @owlaboutbooks @old.enough.for.fairytales @vanessarasanenauthor @triciaghent @turningpageswithmorgan @rooted.in.pages @bookishgirl89
Some other accounts that are noteworthy and inspire me: @oasisgirlmd @chasenoirwrites @literaryxqueen @amanda.the.bookish @thefearlessreader @abookishknight
Favorite Books and Authors:
All-time favorites: Lord of the Rings, Current Favorite: Red Rising.
Authors: Marissa Meyer, Pierce Brown, Brent Weeks, Brandon Sanderson, and Robin Hobb.
Nik Malikov and Azriel.
HA! I’ll give you next month’s TBR to keep this short. From Blood and Ash, Dark Shores, Dark Skies, and A Reaper at the Gates!
What’s your special approach to content?
I honestly just post what I want or what I’m feeling! I don’t go by any “rules.”
Aesthetic / Instagram page theme:
I change my props seasonally, but I try to stick to a bit of a rustic/cozy/homey feel. Right now it’s white, green, and wood for spring!
How often do you post?
I usually post every day except Sundays! I just take a day off from social media on Sundays.
What does your Bookstagram mean to you?
Freedom to be creative. It’s a place where I can talk about books with other people and that just makes me happy!
I don’t have any cute bookstores near me but I’ve been ordering from Bookshop to support Texas indie bookstores!
Who would you have supply you with a lifetime of books?
Probably a fantasy book publisher, like Tor!
Author to take a selfie with:
Probably Sarah J. Maas.
Favorite book cover:
My friend and author, Vanessa Rasanen just released her cover reveal for her book, On These Black Sands, and I’m OBSESSED! It’s turquoise with gold accents!
Book you have claimed to have read that you didn’t:
I think I told people I read Emma by Jane Austen until I realized that I actually hadn’t! :P
When did you know you had made it as a Bookstagrammer?
I think when I hit 10k and got the fancy new features and I got a lot of collaboration requests!
Red Rising, Percy Jackson, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Maas!
Advice for aspiring Bookstagrammers:
Decide what you are going for. Just to share books, then share literally whatever you want. Want to create a bookish aesthetic account? YouTube is your friend for Photoshop and Lightroom tutorials. Also, depending on what you are going for, look up photography that is similar. Flatlays – try looking at food photography, Portrait shots – try looking at table decor setups and depth of field.
I didn’t expect to make friends when I started and now I consider a lot of bookstagrammers friends! I have traded phone numbers, personal Insta accounts, FB profiles, and met up in person! I have also learned a lot about photography and Photoshop and learned that I REALLY enjoy making photo composites! It’s possibly something I might introduce to my account later!
