Yes, you did just read that title correctly. J. K. Rowling just announced that she is writing a brand new children’s book, and it has nothing to do with Harry Potter.
The news is coming straight from Rowling’s website where she posted an update to the “Answers” section on Wednesday of last week. In it she answered five questions, the first of which was, “What are you writing right now?” In response, she wrote:
I’ve just finished the fourth Galbraith novel, Lethal White, and I’m now writing the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts 3. After that I’ll be writing another book for children. I’ve been playing with the (non-Harry Potter/wizarding world) story for about six years, so it’s about time I get it down on paper.
As far as we can tell, it will only be one book as opposed to a series. However, it is still a huge deal as this will be the first non-Harry Potter children’s title that the author has published.
Also worth noting is that if she has been toying with the idea for this book for six years, then she’s had it since around the time she published her first adult novel A Casual Vacancy.
