If you can’t get enough of Stephen King (really though, where’s the limit?) then you’ll be happy to hear that Paramount Pictures has announced that Pet Sematary will hit theaters on April 19, 2019!
If you’re unfamiliar with the chilling 1983 horror, it follows the Creed family, who move to Maine and uncover a haunting pet burial ground which resurrects dead pets (amongst other things).
It’s been over seven years since Paramount announced their interest in reviving the spooky thriller. After the success of the adaptation of It earlier this summer, it looks like now (or a year and a half from now) is the perfect time to release their take on King’s popular story.
Pet Sematary has already seen one theatrical adaptation, when Paramount Pictures (the same company releasing the upcoming adaptation) distributed a Mary Lambert-directed version in 1989. The film was met with mixed reviews and, though it convinced the company to release a sequel in 1992, that, too, underwhelmed audiences upon its release.
This time around, the film will be directed by duo Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian have signed on as producers with Jeff Buhler and David Kajganich signing on as scriptwriters. Alexandra Loewy will be executive producing.
If you’re disappointed that Pet Sematary won’t be released next year, don’t worry. There are plenty of other King adaptations to tide you over until then. Click here to see the recently released adaptations to catch up on and the upcoming adaptations to look out for.
