Stephen King fans will be pleased to hear that another of his book adaptations has just been released on AppleTV+. The novel in question mixes not only King’s signature horror plotlines but also the romance of a love lost. Let’s take a look at Lisey’s Story.
Lisey’s Story follows Lisey and Scott Landon and their lives before and after Scott’s death. Unlike many of his other novels, King cites this novel as a bit autobiographical because, in 2006, he caught double pneumonia and wondered what his wife’s life would be like after his death. Perhaps this is why King refers to this novel as one of his favorites.
Needless to say, allowing for a Lisey’s Story adaptation would be difficult for King. In a recent interview with PopCulture, King remembers the adaptation’s beginnings: “There were offers to do it as a film or as a limited series in the earlier days of Netflix…I always said no because I wanted to do it myself if I could, if the time seemed right for that…I love that book. I held onto it.” Because of how personal the novel is to the horror writer, it’s no wonder why he would want to be wary of how the story is adapted. But in April 2019, Apple Inc. required the rights to the story with King as an executive producer.
You can catch the first three episodes of Lisey’s Story on AppleTV+, starring Julianne Moore and produced by J.J. Abrams. Currently, additional episodes are scheduled to be released every Friday through mid-July until the limited series reaches its eight-episode completion. Not familiar with the story?
