Sony Will Debut a New Spider Heroine on the Big Screen!

Sony has announced a brand new movie adaptation based off of another familiar “Spider” character. This is great news, considering the fact that they have already gone through with the Venom movie fans have been asking for since the symbiotic character’s initial reveal.

Cindy Moon was created by Dan Slot and Humberto Ramos. She is a Korean-American that is the same age as Peter Parker. In fact, the characters share a very similar origin. As classmates, the two toured the same facility where Peter would get bitten by the radioactive spider that gave him his powers.

Now, we all know Spiderman’s story from this point onward. Once bitten, the spider dies and Peter goes off to fight crime as our favorite neighborhood spider. But what if the radioactive spider didn’t instantly die after biting Parker? What if it lived for only a couple more seconds or minutes to bite another victim. This is how Cindy becomes Silk and gets her powers.

Cindy would be an interesting character to see developed in a cinematic view. She has similar powers to Spiderman, albeit with a few differences. For instance, while Peter requires high tech web shooters, Cindy is able to produce organic webbing. She is also more agile than Parker, yet she does show that he may be stronger. The two are also extremely physically attracted to each other due to a shared spider sense.

So far, all we know is that Amy Pascal is going to be producing the new Silk film. No actors or actresses have been named for any part, no filming has begun, and neither has the writing, at least to our knowledge. Pascal has worked on Spiderman: Homecoming and is even producing the upcoming Venom movie as well as the animated feature, Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. Pascal is working on everything for Spiderman that will be launching in the next couple years, so hopefully she can do as well as what we saw in Homecoming.
