After the success of the first film from the Harry Potter sequel franchise Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, people are wondering what to expect for the upcoming second film. We already know that Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Newt Scamander, teaming up with Albus Dumbledore, played by Jude Law, to stop the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald, who controversially, will be played by Johnny Depp.
Despite a ton of information about the casting, we haven’t actually heard that much about the beasts themselves. Fans want to know—will the sequel have as many beasts as the first film, and will they be as important to the storyline?
According to executive producer David Heyman, yes and no. “There are as many beasts in the film as in the first. But the main driver in the first film was finding the beasts. That’s not the driver in this film, it’s not a central part of the plot. But beasts feature in the film and feature strongly.”
Redmayne, who plays the main protagonist in the films, teased Entertainment Weekly, saying, “There’s a Chinese creature that’s formidable and some old favorites: the Niffler is back and causing havoc. As is Picket.”
