Yesterday, YA authors Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon posted a group photo on social media with the caption “Lights Out.” This photo caused YA fans everywhere to go into quite a tizzy, trying to decipher the meaning of this post. It is now confirmed that the group of YA powerhouses will be co-authoring a new book called Blackout.
Blackout is a novel made up of six interlinked stories celebrating Black love. The novel takes place in New York and centers around a citywide power outage. The blackout sends residents into a tailspin, bringing up new romantic relationships, friendships, and hidden truths.
Author Dhonielle Clayton says, “Blackout is our love letter to love, to New York City, and to our Black teens. Our reminder to them that their stories, their joy, their love are valid and worthy of being spotlighted.” Blackout is set for release in the US on June 22, 2021 with more details to be revealed in the coming months.
