‘Sex and the City’ Is Getting a Follow-Up Book and Series!

Based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, Sex and the City was one of the most popular shows of the early 2000s. Following the lives of writer Carrie Bradshaw and her friends, the series examined the four women’s dating lives while examining social issues such as sexuality and femininity through the different perspectives of the main characters. After a six season run, the franchise expanded to include two theatrical films and a spin-off series The Carrie Diaries on The CW.

Though fans might be a little disappointed that another film won’t happen anytime soon, they at least have a new book to fall in love with.

Bushnell is publishing a new book titled Is There Still Sex In The City, a follow-up to the hit novel that inspired the series. Much like the first novel, it will examine dating through the eyes of older woman, specifically over fifty. Topics like marriage, children, and maintaining youth will be examined in Bushnell’s signature voice.

Even though the book isn’t even out yet, a television adaptation is already in development. Paramount TV has acquired the rights to the book and is developing a series. Bushnell is set to write the pilot episode as well as executive produce.

President of Paramount Television, Nicole Clemens, had nothing but good things to say about the book:

“The original Sex and the City book and series served as a groundbreaking touchstone for an entire generation of women, myself included. We’re thrilled to be able to continue that conversation from the underrepresented point of view of women in their 50s and answer the question with, ‘Yes! There is more sex in the city!’”

The book version is set to be released on August 6th.
