Part four of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set to drop on December 31st. This will be the final season, and already, the show is promising to up the ante with a formidable foe and several returning characters.
Two of those characters are, in fact, returning from the first televised adaptation of the original Archie comic book series. Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, first premiered on television in 1996, and it ran until 2003. While The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was inspired by the graphic novel series with the same name, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, was based off the whimsical series of the same name, which was originally released in the 1960s.
In this part 4 teaser, we see Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick appear as Aunt Hilda and Aunt Zelda–who they originally played in Sabrina: The Teenage Witch. However, unlike The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the 1990s television series was a sitcom. The very dynamic between the two aunties is significantly different to what we have seen in the previous seasons of the Netflix series. Granted, both series maintain that Aunt Hilda is the comedic relief, and Aunt Zelda is the more serious of the two, the very tone of the two respective series does impact how we impact the presence of these two characters.
So when we see this teaser trailer, that shows Rhea and Broderick playing these comedic roles against a tonally different backdrop, some are simultaneously delighted and on edge.
The final season of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina drops on December 31st, so look forward to seeing where these two cameos go!
