Hachette Books announced the upcoming release of a Samuel L. Jackson biography, Bad Motherfucker, on October 19. Author Gavin Edwards details Jackson’s impressive filmography, 133 movies to be exact, and original reporting on Jackson’s tumultuous life so far, as well as what makes Jackson the star that he is.

“It lays out how that attitude interacts with his identity as an African-American man, why being cool matters in the modern world, and how it applies to the current social and cultural moment in which everyone is losing their cool,” Hachette Books said about the biography.

Edwards even looks into Jackson’s personal obsessions, like kung fu movies, golf, and profanity. The biography promises an in-depth look at the actor behind beloved characters such as Nick Fury in the Avengers franchise, Jules Winnfield of Pulp Fiction, and Mace Windu of the Star Wars franchise.

Edwards’s track record guarantees a solid delivery of Jackson’s life story, with his previous biographies including Last Night at the Viper Room: River Phoenix and the Hollywood He Left Behind and The Tao of Bill Murray: Real-Life Stories of Joy, Enlightenment, and Party Crashing. Aside from being a New York Times bestselling author, Edwards has written for Billboard, GQ, and Wired.
