Twenty-one years after the show starring Melissa Joan Hart first aired, it looks like Sabrina the Teenage Witch is getting a new lease of life…a much darker one. Entitled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the show aims to take inspiration from horror classics such as The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby. Variety reports:
This adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature, half-witch, half-mortal, while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit,
Let’s hope Salem plays a part in the new series and is as sassy as ever…
If the series gets picked up, it will be a sister to Netflix show Riverdale, a re-imagining of the Archie comics which centers around a murder mystery. Sabrina herself also started out as a character in the Archie comics.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is the chief creative officer of Archie Comics, will be writer and executive producer for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which increases the project’s chances of going ahead, as at present he executive produces CW shows Riverdale, Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl.
I actually can’t think of a show for which I am more ready, so please fellow witches, cast all your best spells to make sure this happens.
