Rumor: ‘Cursed Child’ to the Big Screen?

Happy September 1st! Today is the day witches and wizards everywhere head off to Hogwarts on the Hogwarts Express! With a new school year, there comes news from the Potter world. Surprises never stop coming with this franchise. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child might become a movie! According to The New York Daily News, “Warner Bros. is interested in bringing the West End play…to the silver screen as soon as 2020”

We’ve already got more J.K. Rowling adaptations coming. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is being released this Fall and according to Rowling, Fantastic Beasts will be a trilogy. Unfortunately, she has denied a Cursed Child screen adaptation via twitter earlier this year.

What should we believe? This film franchise has made tons of money. Daniel Radcliffe has said he wants to “keep some distance” from the role of Harry, but also says it would “depend on the script.” In my opinion, no one should ever play Harry Potter but Daniel Radcliffe. It would ruin the entire story! Having grown up reading and watching all things Potter, there’s no one else I see but Daniel Radcliffe. The Huffington Post released a statement, saying:

A rep for Warner Bros. told The Huffington Post in a emailed statement Wednesday morning, ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.

Perhaps with the anticipated success of the Fantastic Beasts trilogy, there may be more to come, but we’ll see. 2020 is 4 years away and within that time, we still have plenty of Potter to keep us occupied.
