Rowling Reveals More About American Wizarding School

Potter fans rejoice! JK Rowling has just regaled the web with the most in depth look at Ilvermorny yet. Ilvermorny is the much-talked-about but rarely seen American wizarding school that will be featured in the upcoming film adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which marks Rowling’s screenwriting debut. The film will be the first in a trilogy. Fans will be able to purchase the original screenplay on November 19th; the day after the premiere.

Today, a video went up on Pottermore, which provided a brief introduction to the institution through some dark and creative animation. In addition to the video, Rowling released a short story that elaborates on the plot of the video. These are great companion pieces to the comprehensive lore and history Rowling released last year, when the details of the school and its place in the Potter world were still muddy.

In the essay, Rowling delved deeper into the history of American wizards, revealing a legacy of oppression and segregation. As if that wasn’t enough, Rowling introduced fans to a new feature of the Pottermore site, wherein users can take a quiz that determines their house in Ilvermorny.
